Phishing is a type of fraud, which makes use of e-mail, instant messages, and web sites to deceive the users and induce them to provide personal and confidential information. Usually fake e-mails seem to arrive from legitimate entities, which ask to reply to an e-mail or to access a web site to update personal data or to avoid the risk that the accounts be closed or suspended. These fake e-mails usually carry a company brand and an address. The information usually requested include the user name and address, the NRIC, the account number and password, details on the Bank accounts and credit cards – sometimes even other personal information used for security reasons.
Beware of any e-mail, instant message, vocal message, or unexpected fax which pretends to arrive from RedMart. If you receive a similar message it is advisable to contact RedMart Customer Service at http://about.redmart.com/contact(but never any of the numbers or emails indicated in the offending message) and check if the message is legitimate.
Never reply to e-mail, phone, message, or fax instructions which solicit the transmission of personal data. Never click on links present in suspicious mails. Clicking on such links may cause the download of key logging programs. Access your RedMart account and other on line accounts and make sure that all transactions are correct. Similarly check any bank statements to check that all debits are authorized. Make use of updated anti-virus programs. Anti-spam and anti-phishing programs are also available to help you identifying potential fake web sites and e-mails.
