From Silicon Valley to Singapore: RedMart Secures Top Software Development Executive
14 July 2017, Singapore – As Silicon Valley veteran Patrick Teo takes up the top product and engineering post at Lazada-owned RedMart, he sees that he has another job on his hands: attracting other talent back to boost Singapore’s expanding tech hub.
After securing a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University and holding senior positions at Facebook, Amazon and Shutterfly, Teo says: “As a Singaporean, I see the exciting developments taking place at home and want to contribute to building the tech ecosystem here.”
In his capacity as Chief Product Officer (CPO) and Executive Vice President Engineering at RedMart, he welcomes the chance to build upon its strong engineering foundation and help make RedMart the best place in Singapore for top tech talent.
Teo says he’s keen to work with the industry and Government “to further cultivate the talented engineers coming out of Singapore’s Universities and attract many living abroad to come back.”
When asked why he chose the Singapore job, he said he was “impressed with RedMart’s customer centricity and I believe this is the role where I could have the most impact”.
Patrick Teo started his Silicon Valley career at Shutterfly, the online retailer and manufacturer, where as Vice President Engineering he led engineering teams at the company from start-up to its NASDAQ IPO.
He then went on to build Amazon’s digital music technology as Head of Technology and Site Leader of the company’s San Francisco office. Most recently, he led multiple engineering teams at Facebook, as Head of Engineering for Local and Entities.
Now he will report to RedMart’s President, Vikram Rupani, who feels Teo’s presence is “a stamp of validation for Singapore’s maturing tech ecosystem and the quality of our own engineering core”.
“Naturally, we are delighted to have such an experienced software development executive to help us grow our online retail business and our reputation as a technology-driven business,” Rupani said.
This is echoed by Teo, who is also convinced that with top tech e-commerce companies such as Lazada and Alibaba investing in Singapore, the nation “is on the path to become a truly world-class tech hub.”
